Aktuelle Projekte

Impact of the circadian cycle in cachexia: The earth's rotation around its axis leads to day night cycles that drive our daily circadian rhythms. The circadian cycle controls a multitude of important biological processes including those in metabolism and immunity. These biological processes are severely impacted during cachexia, a multifactorial syndrome resulting in sustained body weight loss and organ wasting. Commonly found in patients many late-stage patients of different disease aetiologies associated with prolonged inflammation, such as chronic infections and cancers, cachexia currently has no cure - likely because its induction and progression are incompletely understood. I am currently working on understanding the potential link between the two processes, with the aim of pushing results into translation.
